In the early 1990"s, God began to stir the hearts of people in the
Glenwood, Starbuck, Brooten, and surrounding communities. After much prayer and
profiling of the Pope County area, a few Assembly of God Pastors from
neighboring towns secured the Blue and Gold Room in the newly renovated Central
Square building for the purposes of starting a Bible Study. Around Easter of
1995, a Bible study was started on Tuesday nights with a small group of people
from the community.
Three years prior to this , Pastor Denny Curran, one of the church
planting facilitators, invited Pastor Mark Geselle and his wife Kathy, who were
youth Pastors in Michigan, to prayerfully consider planting a church in
Glenwood. In September of 1995 they accepted the call to serve in Glenwood. The
young Minnewaska Assembly of God held its first Sunday service on November 5,
1995 in the E.N.Norgaard Elementary School cafeteria with 44 people in
attendance and soon after moved into the gymnasium. Without a permanent
facility, a prayer meeting was held each Tuesday night at the church office at
102 SE 1st St, and "kid's Explosion" was held on Wednesday evenings at Parkview
Court. Six months after the church began we hired our first Youth Pastor Matt
Cordes and began reaching the youth of our community.
In the Winter of 1996, services were moved to the Minnewaska Area
High School Auditorium, which accommodated the growing congregation. Because of
faithful giving to the work of God, the church was able to purchase 7 acres of
land in Glenwood near the site of the Pamida Store in 1999.
Construction began on the 10,747 square foot facitily in the Summer
of 1999. Our first Sunday service in the completed building was held February
20th, 2000 and the church was formally dedicated on June 25th, 2000, by
District Superintendent, Clarence St. John
Even though the location of our church has changed, our vision has
remained the same. We hold to the teaching of the authoritative Word of God,
and our pentecostal distinctive in equipping the believers to spread the love
of Jesus Christ and to care for and one another. We seek to worship the Lord
with all or our being and to actively pursue Him as we minister to our
families, workplace and community. "They devoted themselves to the apostles'
teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer" Acts
2:42
No matter what your background or place in life, God desires to
pursue you and for you to live the abundant life that he has created for you in
Him.
